Anushka Sharma colours it up!: Actress Anushka Sharma is in a celebratory mood post her last release Band Baaja Baraat’s box-office success.
And while the actress won’t be celebrating Holi this year, she takes us through her earliest memories of the festival.
“For me, festival time is family time and since Holi is one of my favourite festivals, we have always celebrated it together. Everything from getting a nice hair massage with coconut oil from my mom, the celebrations, filling balloons to playing tricks on everybody — I love and cherish all these Holi memories.
My most memorable Holi experience was the year before I left for Mumbai. My brother and I had such dhamaal with so many tricks. Ever since I moved to Mumbai, I really try to celebrate every Holi with my family but sadly I won’t be able to do so this year as I will be working.”
Sharma has always been close to her brother and recounts how the both of them would eagerly wait for their father, an Army officer to come back home from his postings.
“He would tell us stories, and it was very exciting for me as a child. My dad’s friends would all come home for dinner and my mom would make delicious food for all of us.”
Being extremely close to her brother, it is not surprising that most of her childhood memories are attached to celebrating the festival with him.
Sharma though has had a lot of fun playing Holi, she insists that she has never tasted bhang.
“I’ve never had bhang and I don’t enjoy ghujjia or the other traditional Holi mithai. What I’m most excited about is my mom’s momos — they’re just out of this world! Even though it is such an unconventional treat for Holi, all of us really binge and demand momos whenever we get together! I like thandaii because it’s cooling and I’m looking forward to having that this Holi,” she concludes.
